Some Fifty Shades of Grey Fans Disappointed

Finally, the role of Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Gray landed to Charlie Hunnam. Hunnam is a British actor who has had some big roles, including in the recent blockbuster Pacific Rim. But fans of the erotic novel were surprised by this casting decision, as many expected the role to go to either Matt Bomer, Rob Pattinson or Ben Affleck. The role of young Anastasia Steele landed to Dakota Johnson.

Many Singaporeans argue that Hunnam does not represent the handsome, dark and mysterious Christian Grey. Some fans are critical of the decision, questioning the sex appeal of Hunnam and how his looks don’t fit the character’s description in the novel. Some fans of Matt Bomer even plan to start a petition for re-casting. But the decision seems to be final.

Fifty Shades of Grey is under the genre erotic romance. Released in 2011, the novel draws the intense relationship between Anastasia Steele, a recent college graduate and Christian Grey, a mysterious business magnate. The book is remarkable because of its explicit erotic scenes exhibiting elements of sexual practices relating to BDSM (bondage, discipline, submission and masochism). There are three books in the series: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

To date, Fifty Shades of Grey has been certified as a best seller in the U.S., U.K and internationally. In fact, the book has surpassed the Harry Potter series as the fastest selling paperback of all time.
